How we create content you can trust.

Pet parents rely on us to make real decisions about the animals they love. These guidelines explain how we research, write, review, correct and update everything we publish, and what you can expect from us.

Last updated: September 25, 2026

Every Mad4Pets guide is researched and written with care
🎯Accurate

Grounded in established veterinary and welfare guidance.

🧭Independent

Advertisers and partners never shape our advice.

πŸ”Transparent

We disclose how content is made and correct errors openly.

❀️Welfare first

The animal's health and wellbeing always comes first.

01

Our editorial standards

Everything published on Mad4Pets is created to help everyday pet owners care for their animals well. Every article, guide and tool must meet five core standards before it goes live:

Accurate

Consistent with mainstream veterinary and animal-welfare guidance at the time of publishing.

Useful

Practical, specific and actionable, with clear steps, checklists or tables wherever they help.

Clear

Written in plain language, with technical terms explained the first time they are used.

Safe

Never recommends practices that could put an animal or person at risk, and flags when a vet is needed.

Fair

Balanced where experts disagree, and honest about the limits of current evidence.

02

Sources we trust

We prioritize primary, authoritative sources and cross-check important facts. In order of preference, we use:

  1. Veterinary professional bodies such as national veterinary associations and specialist colleges.
  2. Veterinary schools and teaching hospitals and their published client-education materials.
  3. Peer-reviewed research in veterinary medicine, animal behavior and welfare science.
  4. Recognized animal-welfare organizations and government animal-health agencies.
  5. Established reference texts in veterinary medicine and animal husbandry.
We rely on established veterinary guidance

We do not rely on anonymous forums, social media trends or marketing claims as sources of fact. We never invent statistics, studies, quotes or experts. When evidence is limited or opinions differ among professionals, we say so plainly.

03

How an article is made

  1. Topic selection. We choose topics based on the questions pet owners actually ask, seasonal needs and gaps in trustworthy information.
  2. Research. We gather guidance from the sources above and note where advice varies by species, breed, age or region.
  3. Drafting. We structure each guide for real life, with an introduction, clear sections, practical steps, a key takeaways box, a tip from veterinary guidance and a frequently asked questions section.
  4. Fact-checking. Figures such as temperatures, feeding amounts, lifespans and timelines are checked against our sources. Safety-critical details get extra scrutiny.
  5. Editing. We edit for accuracy, clarity, tone and readability, and remove anything speculative or unsupported.
  6. Publishing and monitoring. After publishing, we monitor reader feedback and review content regularly so it stays current.
04

Health and veterinary content

Health content carries extra responsibility, so we follow additional rules:

  • We provide general information and education, not diagnosis or treatment for an individual animal.
  • We always explain when signs or symptoms warrant a veterinary visit, and we clearly flag emergencies.
  • We do not recommend prescription medication doses, and we warn against giving human medicines to pets.
  • We highlight common toxins and hazards, such as lilies for cats, xylitol and grapes for dogs, and avocado for birds.
  • When a qualified veterinary professional reviews an article, their name and credentials appear in the byline. We never imply a review that did not happen.
05

Use of AI and automation

We believe in being open about how our content is produced. Some Mad4Pets articles are drafted with the help of AI writing tools, and we may use automated tools to help with tasks such as research organization, formatting and image selection.

  • AI-assisted drafts are produced under strict instructions to follow mainstream veterinary guidance and to avoid invented statistics, studies, quotes, brands or experts.
  • AI-assisted content is held to exactly the same standards, corrections process and update schedule as everything else we publish.
  • We never use AI to impersonate real people, fabricate reviews or testimonials, or create fake expert credentials.
  • If you spot something that seems wrong in any article, please tell us and we will review it promptly.
06

Independence and advertising

Mad4Pets is independent. Our editorial decisions are made separately from any commercial considerations.

  • We may display advertising or earn commissions through affiliate links to support the site. These relationships never influence what we recommend or how we write about it.
  • Sponsored content, if we ever publish it, will always be clearly labeled as sponsored.
  • We do not accept payment in exchange for positive coverage.
07

Product recommendations

Our buying guides explain what to look for so you can make informed choices, whatever your budget. When we discuss products we:

  • Focus on safety, welfare, quality and value, not hype.
  • Explain the features that matter and why, so the advice stays useful even as specific products change.
  • Only describe hands-on testing when testing actually took place.
  • Disclose any affiliate relationship clearly on the page.
08

Images and media

Many photos on Mad4Pets come from Pexels and are credited to their photographers in captions. Photos are chosen to illustrate topics; they do not necessarily show the specific animal, breed or product being discussed. We avoid images that show unsafe handling, poor welfare or practices we do not recommend.

09

Corrections and updates

We work hard to get things right, but if we make a mistake, we fix it quickly and transparently.

  • Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article.
  • Regular reviews: we revisit articles periodically and whenever guidance changes, and update the date shown on the article.
  • Outdated content that can no longer be kept accurate is revised or removed.
We review and update our content as advice changes
10

Language, tone and inclusivity

  • We write warmly and respectfully, without judgment. Every pet parent is learning.
  • We favor positive, reward-based training methods and do not recommend punishment-based techniques.
  • We cover all kinds of companion animals and recognize that households, budgets and living situations differ.
  • We use plain language, explain technical terms and keep accessibility in mind with clear headings, alt text and readable layouts.
11
